is it ok to install parallels now?

OK, I partitioned the hard drive with BootCamp, and Installed Windows XP Professional. I downloaded and installed the latest BootCamp update software changing it to the latest version of 2.1. I then installed SP3.

Is it safe to install Parallels 3 now? I want to ensure I can access the windows partition via bootcamp AND parallels. Reason being, sometimes I want full system resources (games), other times I just want to check something quickly.

Also, would it be better to create an entirely new partition just for Parallels?

It is safe to make Parallels Dekstop use your Boot Camp partition with the latest Microsoft updates, just be aware that all future updates should be installed directly under Boot Camp.

You can use two (and more) virtual machines if you would like to -- one based on Boot Camp partition and another as standard virtual machine

Just be sure you use the latest Parallels build (5608) and not a previous one such as 5584 which is not compatible with SP3.

sounds like u are doing everything right, so now is the time! my use is simular to yours, and i do have a Vista.hdd environement that I use to check things quickly. PD is very cool in this regard. the only big problem I have ever had is when switching from bootcamp to PD back and forth lots of times. some of my software registrations started to go bonkers. so now I am starting to blow away the bootcamps on our machines and just use .hdd files, giving up that native support for drivers and hoping i never really need it. cheers!
