Parallels Desktop b5608 Demo download

Hi, I downloaded a 15 day trial of this package a couple of days ago, and have had no success installing it after several attempts. I've wiped a mac mini, installed OS 10.5.5 from scratch, then the parallels, then XP. During XP install I constantly get a hang while the screen says "15 minutes to go". After a while I'll stop the virtual machine and restart, at which point Windoze boots. I begin downloading XP updates and the system always stops during the XP SP2 update - when it states something along the lines of "invalid file".
I've just begun to do the install from scratch again on a macbook pro when I spotted these forum entries about the build that I'm using.
My questions are:
1 Is the other link [http://download.parallels.com/v3/en/GA/Parallels-Desktop-5608-Mac-en.dmg] that john@parallels mentions above - valid for me to use even though I'm only running a trial download?
2. Will this fix the problems that I've been experiencing?
3. What other suggestions can you make for me to try please?
I'm demoing this to a school who need to run One Windows app on their mainly mac based network, and this experience so far hasn't instilled me with a lot of product confidence.
Thanks, Paul

Yes
2. Will this fix the problems that I've been experiencing?
Delete failed VM
Use custom installation , disable Intel-VTx and Hardware acceleration from Configuration Editor - Options-Advanced

Hi Parallels Team,

I downloaded the updated 5608 file (http://download.parallels.com/v3/en/...608-Mac-en.dmg)

and reinstalled Parallels as per the instructions in (http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790)

and my parallels still does not start. I receive the same fatal error message however, this time a error log is sent to Parallels.

Also, when I do the terminal step, I receive the message:

rm: illegal option -- /
usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ...
unlink file

Is this normal?

Please let me know if you require further information.

Thanks! =)

Copy and Paste Problem

New user, new (yesterday) version 5608 seems to be working except I can't cut from Windows and paste into Mac. I'm trying to cut from Streets and Trips in Parallels/Windows into Illustrator CS3 on a Mac. I've installed the tools, no change. Any suggestions?

"Illegal option -- /" means that that you asked for the option '/' which doesn't exist, an option for a command (rm in this case) is any character that goes after '-' (which in this case should only be 'r' and 'f'), what this means is that you probably typed something like 'sudo rm -rf/ Applications/Parallels' or 'sudo rm -rf/Applications/Parallels' instead of 'sudo rm -rf /Applications/Parallels'. There should be a space between '-rf' and '/Appli...'.

pvolkmar: Can you cut n' paste text from windows to osx? I maybe misunderstanding, but you seem to be trying to cut and paste images, and I'm not sure that's supported. You would have to cut n' paste it in Windows as a an image file than drag that file to OSX.

Hi John, Thanks that allowed the install to work.

Am I going to lose much functionality or general speed by leaving these disabled though?

Copy Paste Problem

You are correct, I am trying to copy an image. I can't copy anything, in either direction. I can workaround by saving a web page image on the windows desktop. Parallels allows dragging that image to the Mac desktop where it can be opened by Mac software. Bottom line, copying and pasting (text or image) from the Windows software to the Mac software doesn't work.

@pvolkmar: Text copy n' pasting is not working? Strange... What version of Windows is this? Is it perhaps Windows 98? All functions of Parallels Tools only work on Windows 2000/XP/Vista.

I'm running Windows XP Home SP3 and it seems to be OK. I currently can't copy or drag anything in either direction. Previously I was able to drag a web page but I can no longer drag that same web page in either direction.

John: I saved the image as a web page to the windows desktop, then dragged it to the Mac desktop where I was able to open and use it. I was also able to drag a .pdf file from the Mac to the Windows desktoop one time (couldn't repeat same move).

In case this got lost in your list John.....

I thought I'd post again. Thanks.

John: I currently can't move anything in either direction. I can't copy from a Windows document and paste into a Mac Document or the reverse. I also can't drag from Windows desktop to Mac desktop or reverse.

I am experiencing the same problems described below. Found the thread through Google. I am attempting to update from 5582, and after I download and launch the .dmg Parallels becomes unresponsive. Upon relaunching and attempting to open the .dmg, I get the message "Parallels-Desktop-560 not recognized"

John, do you have a solution for this issue mentioned earlier in this thread?

Thanks

Please try to reinstall Parallels Tools
as a first step
