Problems with Parallel Tools for ver. 4.0

I am new to this board. I have recently purchased MBP and decided to get Parallels. About 3 weeks ago it was ver 3.0. I installed it with option of VM as boot up and worked well. About few days ago I noticed that there was ver 4.0 available so I bought an upgrade (by the way there should be some sort of FREE upgrade if you bought ver 3.0 like 1 week prior ver 4.0 release).

Anyway, that's not the point. I tried to upgrade to ver 4.0 and like most of you I was forced into manual upgrade after first step. At the end of the day everything seemed to be smooth. However, for some reason Parallel Tools were not installed. I tried to do it manually from Parallel Desk Menu when Windows Vista was running in Vista. It looked like the installation was a success. After rebooting, the system claimed that Tools were not installed. I tried install and install ver 4.0 but with the same result. I have decided to return to ver 3.0

After finding this forum and realizing that new build of ver 4.o was available (3540). I gave it a try. Once again, I ended up with Parallel Tool issue. This time the system told me that I have Outdated Parallel Tools and from the Menu I was presented with option to update Parallel Tools. I tried to do it, to no avail. Nothing was installed. When I rebooted system, it again complained on having outdated Tools. At the end I am again back to ver 3.0.

Is there any WORKING remedy to manually install Parallel tools that would actually work? Any advice is appreciated. While new product might be impressive by the options now available, if I cannot get them to work they are worthless.

Thank you. It partially resolved the problem. Looks like I have tools installed, but for some reason I am still getting message that Tools are not installed. I am keep reinstalling them and reboot windows. However, once it is rebooted it appears again?

A simple itemised list of the sequence of operations, with the jargon removed would have greatly assisted most peoples' attempts at upgrade.

Many people are saying (on this Forum) that we are acting like Beta Testers - personally, I've never actually parted with my money to be in that position before.

Good luck, I'm back on a working Version 3 for now.

So did I. On the top of it, I realized that I had to re-activate Windows Vista if I stayed in ver 4.0. I tried to do automatic re-activation but it said I had to get new serial ID. It might be due to the fact that I already tried several times moving from ver 3.0 to 4.0. For the time being I am sticking to 4.0 until more well-rounded version is available.

Can not install Parallel Tools

I had previously contacted support who told me to upgrade to build 3540. Once I did that still had the same problem which is. I install Parallel Tools it gets right up to the end where it says Publishing product information and comes up with an error box that says:

Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly component {98CB24AD-52FB-DB5F-A01F-C9B3B9A1E18E} HRESULT: 0x080070057. If I reboot the box without clicking that a hobbled copy remains. if I hit ok it backs out the whole install.

I've been using 3.x since 3.x came out just fine so this not an issue of my MAC not being able to run parallels.

I actually meant sticking to ver 3.0. However, I decided to make last attempt. It was painful but I did it. My goal was to use boot camp as VM.

1. I have uninstalled Parallels ver 3.0 and 4.0 completely.
2. I removed Windows Vista Home Professional completely as well
3. I started from the scratch to create Boot Camp on Leopard allocated 90 GB space.
4. I reinstalled Windows Vista Hoe Professional as Boot camp
5. After completing this, I used OSX installation disk to load Boot Camp utilities for Windows
6. After I finished I rebooted to Windows and Vista run smoothly
7. I have returned and rebooted into OSX system.
8. I run Parallel v.4 (3540) installation
9. It went smoothly with Parallel Tools also installed well.
10. Now it works.
