PDT 6.0 - No Network Connection

I just upgraded to PDT 6.0. I can't get a network connection at all. I've switched between Bridged and Shared several times. Still, I can't get a network connection.

Build : 6.0.11820
Host : Mac OS 10.6.4
VM : Windows XP

Earlier today, I had no problems with the network while using PDT 5.0

Also, WHY is the Parallels Tool installer STILL having troubles? I can't understand why after 3 major releases, PDT can't successfully install Parallels Tools without manually uninstalling the program, removing from the registry, etc.

Could you please click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all". Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID?

I am also experiencing a network connection issue.

I upgraded from PD 5 to 6 last night and have not been able to get my VM's any kind of working network access at all.

It seems that while the NIC's in the VM work fine, the networking kernel extension isn't properly working to provide the VM's with a valid bridged or shared address.

I run my VM's in bridged mode because they have to have direct access to the network (DNS requirements and things like that.

Normally at home the VM's will pick a DHCP address from my router and I'll have something like 10.220.210.x, or at work they'll have 10.180.17.x

Instead though the VM's are only picking up the internal VNIC addresses like 10.211.x.x even though they are set to bridged mode. I'm in the middle of re-installing Parallels tools after un-installing it via the ISO (vs the windows uninstall). I will post the ipconfig after I finish with the re-install.
 
Adam and wrobison, it seems that you've met just-discovered issue of Parallels Destktop 6.0 which wrongly decides that Parental Control is turned on. The issue will be fixed as soon as possible. Unfortunately so far there is no workaround.
 
BTW, to uninstall parallels since there isn't an easy GUI option that i've found open Terminal, navigate to the following oflder ROOT:Library/Parallels/Ununstall/Parallels Hypervisor/

Execute the uninstall.sh script by typing 'sudo ./uninstall.sh'. Enter your admin PW when requested (required)

it will take a while. You should get the following text in terminal if you exectute it right.

I've already opened a ticket. Here is the number : 986231

Please see that ticket. The issue turns out NOT to be with networking per se. When I start the VM, I have networking. However, network connections disappear when I am TRYING to install Parallels Tools - which never finishes.

I tried replying directly to your post, but my post doesn't show up.

The problem for me is actually NOT with networking per se. When, I boot the VM, I DO have networking. However, when I try to install Parallels Tools it hangs forever and then I no longer have networking.

So, my real problem is trying to install PT. I've done everything - removing from Programs, removing all entries in registry, etc.

HELP PLEASE!
 
After speaking with tech support for a good hour or two it was determined that at this time it is best for my case to go back to v5.

PS - you can also uninstall from the DMG image - there is an 'Uninstall' option that works in GUI mode for those not comfortable with the shell.
 
JustinN, can you generate a problem report please (Help->Report a Problem) and post here its ID? Please do it while your VM is open. It will have some technical information about your environment that we need to look at.
 
I have completed two problems reports via Parallels.

6639538 : Performed BEFORE an attempt to install PT.

6639603 : Performed AFTER attempt to install PT
 
I am also have network issues after upgrading to PDT6

I have similar issues.
I am using shared network and can ping a number of addresses both on the local subnet and also on the internet but cannot connect to ANY site using either IE or firefox.
I can also tracert to any address.

I have raised a problem report ID: 6639727.
The associated screen shows CMD with ipconfig and ping outputs as well as an IE screen showing error trying to browse www.paralels.com

This is very frustrating as I need my VM for work so it seems my only option is to uninstall PDT 6 and re-install PDT 5. Fortunately I backed up my vm before upgrading but I now need to restore that as well.

Can someone please provide an ETA for this being fixed!
 
same issue here

confirmed network connections are flaky. If I do a full re-install of PD6 - bridged network settings carry over (from my PD5 pvm). But if I then shut down the virtual Win XP Pro guest, and restart, network settings are toast.

PD5 worked fine?? Finally I had to uninstall PD6 and go back to PD5. Thankfully it worked OK to go back...

This needs to be fixed ASAP!
 
I have installed the latest build of parallels and I have NO network adapters at all. When I go to the Control Panel -> Network & Internet -> Network Connections, there is nothing that shows up. I have tried both bridged mode and shared mode with no luck as well as reinstalling parallels tools.

During installation I did get the error "You need to log in to Windows to complete configuring your virtual machine", after I logged in it appeared that everything else went smoothly.

I am using Windows 7 Pro on a preexisting boot camp partition with a fresh install of Parallels.

Any ideas?

Hello Kevin.

First of all please switch to SharedNetworking.

Then try to follow the steps in http://kb.parallels.com/en/8865

I'm not sure at the moment whether article is _exactly_ correct and may be you need to delete (right-click on adapters with '!' and choose 'delete') failed network adapters prior to "Scan for Hardware Changes".

Let me know if this helped/have not helped.

Note: it is not required to reinstall tools, because in PD6 networking no longer depends on tools.

update at 15-sept: kb-article now includes step for deleting failed adapters

Worked like a charm, thank you for your quick reply. I tried searching the KB, but did not find that article. I look forward to trying out Parallels 6.
 
Worked for me too. Win 7, iMac i5 w/ Snow Leopard, PDT 6.0.11822

Uninstalled "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection" and then did "Scan for hardware changes." The network adapter was reinstalled and I now have access to network drives and internet. (Side note: Before uninstalling and scanning for changes, the network adapter showed that it was connected and did not have the '!' next to it as mentioned earlier.)

UPDATE: While the internet and network drives are now accessible, it is not possible to access my shared folders from OS X. Sharing settings for folders still set the same in config, restart of VM did not resolve.

UPDATE #2: I ended up having to do a system restore back to before I made any changes to the network adapter. Upon restore I was back to where I was initially: unable to connect to network drives or internet. This time instead of uninstalling the "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection" network adapter I right-clicked and Disabled it and then Enabled it once again. I can now connect again to network, internet, and OS X shared folders.
