    Hey guys,
I am running parallels and one of my virtual machines runs Windows 7. In order for me to activate the Windows 7 OS so that it doesn't expire in 2 weeks, I need to get access the internet. I do not use wi-fi although my iMac has it so the internet is trough my ethernet cord.
On my Windows 7 virtual machine, I am unable to access the hardware of my IMac, so I can not access the ethernet port and not connect to the internet.

Can someone please help me connect to the internet on my WIndows 7 virtual machine?

    Thanks in Advance and Regards,
    Irfan M

When in your virtual machine, go into Windowed or Coherence mode and then go to the Parallels Desktop Devices menu. Go to Network and select either Shared Network or go to Bridged Network and select your ethernet.

Your VM will then be accessing your iMac's Internet connection.

    still not working

    Hi Steve,
thank you for replying so fast. I went tot eh device options and changed it; however, it is still not working.
I included a screencast of what I am doing. FIrst I go to configure and make sure it is on bridged-networking and on ethernet. Then i shutdown and restart my virtual machine to apply the changes. Then i opened up safari to prove that I am connected to the internet from the ethernet port that my iMac is using. Then i started the windows 7 virtual machine. Attempted to access the internet, but Ie still said it was unable to. I then went down to the section with statistics and shoed that according to parallels, the machine in connected to the internet, but it is not able to access any of it.

    Here is the video: http://screencast.com/t/3gzijDEvzeNW
I apologise for it being obnoxiously huge.

I hope you can help me solve the problem.

Thanks for all your help thus far and Regards.

As indicated on the window during boot, you haven't installed the Parallels Tools. Select to install from the Virtual Machine menu.

hmm well that seems to be another problem. I put in the Parallels install disc and start up my Windows 7 virtual machine. Then after I have logged into Windows 7, I go to my mac and click install parallel tools under the Virtual Machines' menu tab in the Parallel menu.
Windows 7 sees that there is the parallels install coming from the optical drive and asks me if I want to install it. I tell it yes. It seems to install almost unitl the end until it all pf a sudden undoes the installation.

I recorded a screencast again, but this one is larger than before. It is still uploading to.com screencast. It entails the first installation attempt, the shutdown, reboot, second installation attempt, and then the same error.
If you want me to write a new post or edit this one with a link to if after it is done uploading I will.
I just wanted to make you aware that I was having problems installing Parallels tools too.

Also, I am guessing that parallels tools is probably tools and maybe a internet connect diagnosis tool that can help me connect to the internet or is it just something one should have installed in all PArallels virtual machines?

I dont know how to say in words how thank you I am so far. So Ill say that I am extremely grateful for all your help form the bottom of my heart.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Irfan Mir

Parallels Tools install is built into PD. If you are talking about an install disk (ie optical disk), don't put that in. With no disk in the drive, just select to install the tools into your VM.

In PD Help, search for "parallels tools for windows".

The parallels disk is out of the machine and I rebooted the Windows 7 virtual machine. I am still getting the problem where it almost finishes installing and then undoes everything.

Here is a smaller and the most recent video on me trying to install Parallel Tools without Parallels disc in.

I hope this helps you help me :)

11/8/2008 for the date of the installer? What version of Parallels are you running?

Download and install the latest after completely shutting down the VM (not suspending) and try again.

Sorry, my English is bad. I live in Germany.

I have bought the newest iMac 21,5''. On bootcamp I have installed "Windows 7". No problem with the connection to the internet. But on Parallels Desktop 6 (the very newest version) I can not connect to the internet. I have read all messages here and on other boards. I have read the handbook. I have tried all network possibilities. No access! There is a message on Windows 7 that I have a problem.
I have send a report. The number is: 6926648.
Is there any hope for me?
    Greetings from Germany

    Hi
unfortunately there was some problem with problem-reports and report is not accessible, please follow this steps one more time:

"Make sure that VM is in Shared Networking mode (please reboot the VM if it isn't). If this doesn't help, please click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all". Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID"

Hm... :-( It seems that there was a problem on the report server. I've contacted person who is responsible for it and he swears that he has made something on it and it should work now as it should.

    Please send one more report

When I updated to parallels 6, I do not have a serial number for that. I am currently using the trial.
I don't know if I will be able to afford a serial for parallels 6

Do you think the deleting network adapter would work on Parallels 4, which is the version i have?

Mm.. it is not a correct question.

Please make sure that you are running the latest version of Parallels 4 (so far it is 3848, see the link at http://kb.parallels.com/en/5802 ). Make sure that tools are installed. Then do the same steps with send of Problem report. (also send a report if setup tools fails)
