No network connection in Parallels 6

Hi,

I used to be able to connect to my network in BootCamp and my Parallels 5 VM (using the BootCamp partition) on my MBP. I have upgraded to Parallels 6 and now I can no longer connect in BootCamp or Parallels.

I have searched in this forum and tried a number of things such as the netsh commands, deleting the network device driver, but nothing has worked.

I have an iMac with exactly the same configuration and that works fine after the upgrade.

I'm unsure what other information to share so if you think you can help me but you need more information please let me know what else to post.

Help!

Hi,

make sure that VM is in Shared Networking mode. If this doesn't help, please click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all". Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID.

The problem report number is 6785670.

Ok, I see.. all seems to be ok with Parallels desktop and tools and the problem is somewhere on the Windows side.

Try for the first to uninstall Parallels Internet Security. There are sometimes conflicts with some VPN-software. If this helps, it will be possible to try to install it again

Are you sure that problems started when you upgraded to PD6? May be there were some other changes - some software installation

Also, what were the netsh commands you tried?

netsh commands

Hi,

I don't have the internet security stuff installed. I may have installed updates to apps on my MBP but I haven't done a new installation of any software other than Parallels.

The netsh commands I tried were:

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset reset.log

Internet security

Hi,

You're right! I did have internet security installed. I thought that I didn't because when I selected the Virtual Machine menu it said 'install Kaspersky internet Security' rather than reinstall.

I uninstalled it in Control Panel and when I rebooted the network adapter is now working.

Thanks,

S

Hi

It seems that you need to reinstall Parallels Tools.

It is a weak point of Parallels Desktop - it doesn't notify user that after upgrading Windows (from say XP to Win7) it is required to reinstall Parallels Tools

I had bootcamp already and installed Parallels 6. After all the installation, I don't get any network. My network adapter wasn't found in Devices Manager (there's no Network Adapters in the list!). I checked the configuration of Parallels 6 and everything is set to Shared. In ipconfig /all there's nothing special, meaning there's no network adapter! I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate

How do I fix this?

Take a look at "other devices" in the DeviceManager. If kb-article http://kb.parallels.com/en/8865 doesn't help, then please send a problem report using Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem" and post here its id. Please don't close DeviceManager window while sending the report

Sorry, I was able to fix it right after my post. Yes, in the Other Devices there's one single Ethernet Controller with an exclamation mark. At first I wasn't sure if that was it and if it was safe. But I removed it and scanned for new hardware changes. The Intel one got installed and my Wifi now works.

Thanks.

Another instance of no internet in WIN under parallels

I have no internet, I have re-installed paralel tools and selected various options in the config with no success. It was working before a restart of the mac but not post restart.

Parallels version 6 and windows version 7

I clicked the report button on the desktop before finding my way here so report 7201695 may or may not be relevant.

TIA

I've having the same problem as Chris.

Can't detect wireless network and connect to the Internet.

Troubleshooting message as follows: Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you need a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver.

On Windows 7 and Parallels 6.

Report ID: 7202223

Please help.

Thanks and cheers.

Contacted Parallels Technical Support.

The resolution steps as follows:

1. Launch Parallels Desktop and start the Virtual Machine.

2. Click on the Start menu i.e. Windows Pearl.

3. Type Device Manager in the search box and then open the Device Manager window.

4. Under ports select the port, right click and then uninstall it.

5. Then, click on Computer on the top and click "Scan for hardware changes".

Hope the above helps.

Yippee

OK, I could have reported it but incompetence got in the way - I didn't see that link I focussed on the post :o)

trekkiesh, many thanks for posting that, it worked a treat, i had nothing to 'delete' as I have airport selected as the network type. I went ahead and pressed scan and bingo it worked. I don't pretend to understand however as:

Yesterday when I noticed the issue I was using mobile WiFi to connect my Mac and in teh MAc it was fine but no connection in windows

Last night on my domestic WiFi it was working fine on both.

Today it started out fine on the domestic WiFi but as soon as I switched it stopped on windows but Mac was still fine.

Pressing scan suddenly meant it is now working on the Mobile WiFi for both ... just need to see if it's still ok at home - but it looks as though I have a solution thanks to your uploading your experience so again, many thanks.

Hi,
i'm having the same but slightly different problem. i'm running XP using PD6. all systems seems a-go, but i can't internet connectivity on my XP. i'm not sure what the heck is going on. i've tried all the suggestions posted in many different post, but i can't seem to get the XP to connect to the internet via my wireless connection on my MBP. i have a hunch that it's some silly XP setting, but i'm not sure.

any suggestions would be great.

thanks!
