Parallels is preventing MacOS to sleep

Parallels is causing MacOS not to sleep, and wakes up immediately whenever it goes to sleep. This happens when you turn on MacOS's Firewall, and block the incoming connections to Parallels, even when Parallels is not running, and the virtual ethernets were turned off. The MacOS system preference is set not to wake on any network activity, yet Parallels is waking it up.

The system console log shows Parallels' daemon is causing mDNSResponder to RegisterInterface and Deregistering it, causing Frequent transitions for interface vmnet8, vmnet1, en0, en2, en3

Why is Parallels daemon running in the background when Parallels has not even started? Parallels should not be running at all. Worse yet, it even overrides MacOS's system setting not to wake up on network activity. Why is it trying to resolve DNS when the virtual ethernet is turned off already? And when the Firewall blocks its incoming traffic, then it attempts even more frantically to resolve DNS even more, causing MacOS not to sleep? That should not be happening.

The latest update 6.0.11994 should have this problem fixed (While VM is switched off). Unfortunately older version really can prevent sleep. As a workaround I can suggest http://www.dragonone.com/products/macosx/pleasesleep/

What about this. Saying frankly, I can remember any problem with register/derigister. Could you post here the line you mentioned?

 

Here is how to reproduce it. I have wasted so much time trying to fix it, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

If the Firewall is turned on when you boot up, nothing you do will fix the issue. I have tried to kill the 7 vmnet background daemons, unplugged the physical ethernet wire and wireless, turned off the vm network off, launched PleaseSleep app. Nothing works. I can definitely see that it is trying to resolve the DNS repeatedly that is waking up the system before and after sleep. Parallels is not running, I have not started it or used it for years. But why is the virtual shared ethernet running in the background that is definitely causing this problem?

Then if I turn off the Firewall, turn the 2 VM shared ethernet back on, and then reboot, it seemed I can force it to sleep.

Then I check the network setting when it seemed to have fixed the problem, and I found it is setting the VM ethernet to use manual IP. I think that could be the culprit: It is trying to look for the manually assigned IP, but if that IP configuration is turned off or if that IP configuration is set to use DHCP, it is raising hell, I assume it is trying to resolve the DNS but unable to get a valid IP, and did an infinite loop on it.

If I turn on the Firewall, it could have even exasperate the problem even more, if the traffic to that ethernet is blocked.

I am not using/running Parallels at all, so the VM ethernet should not be running. That's why I turned it off in both the ethernet setting and in the firewall. I am using the Mac, I don't ever want any PC traffic.

I have not used Parallels for years because it ran so slow that it is painful to even try it, and gave up on it, wasted my money and forgotten about it even existed in my system. So Parallels daemon shouldn't have run it in the background, so I thought. It hogged up so much disk space that I had to migrate to a bigger disk to make room for it. It may also contribute to the problem when it migrated to a different disk from the original installed disk, or maybe not, I don't even care.

I just want to uninstall it and save me the headache. It is Parallels 4, so it is stone-age. How do you uninstall it? I don't need it, and I don't want more stress.

I'm currently testing out the demo versions of both Parallels and VMware and I'm leaning towards vmware.
It seems to be much smoother to use somehow. Much
faster with the applications that I use also. But I'm going to give it until the full 30 days for each program have
expired before I make my decision.
