Parallels 7 and Windows 8

I don't really feel the need to upgrade to P9, as I've only had this version for 18 months. However, I need to upgrade windows from XP to 8.1. I have purchased 8.1 and backed up my VM - can I make this upgrade with Parallels 7? Thanks.

Hi Axeman21,

You can install Windows 8.1 OS in Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac.

Windows 8.1 will work in PD 7 but you will not have the entire functionality of the OS like Graphics, Display, etc.

We suggest you to Purchase PD 9 in which the entire functionality of Windows 8.1 OS is compatible.

Thanks. One other question - right now, using Win 8 in Parallels 7 everything is fine, but Coherence doesn't work. I've tried all the possible fixes noted in other areas of this forum, to no avail. Will coherence work if I have P9?

Hi Axeman21,

Please follow the steps as suggested at http://kb.parallels.com/111474
And yes, if you choose to upgrade to Parallels Desktop 9, it should get rid of the issue automatically as it reinstalls Parallels Tools during this process.
