I installed windows 10 64 bit with 8gb of memory. I have now changed in Parallels to 6GB of memory, BUT Windows 10 does not ever report the correct value (i.e. always says 8gb). I have tried rebooting, restarting, etc and nothing seems to change the RAM reported amount. I have tried different values in parallels but Windows 10 seems to ignore all changes of RAM. What do I do please... P.S I will add that I have checked the parallels logs and all is reported correctly... VM conf: 2 CPU, 6048MB RAM, 512MB VRAM, Windows 10 Ps.PS... I changed the settings to restore defaults which is 2GB and started windows and all reported fine. I then went back to 6048 Ram and Windows has gone back to thinking 8GB is installed again. Lost for words...
Hi @CharlieW1, Please try installing the Windows updates and run a SFC scan with the following steps, 1. Open the Start menu, type in 'cmd' (Command Prompt) without quotes, right-click on the application and choose Run as Administrator. 2. In Command Prompt type in: sfc /scannow (hit Return/Enter) 3. Restart the Windows and check the RAM again. Feel free to get back to us with the results any time.
Thanks for the reply. I ran the commands as instructed etc. and the system reported no violations. "Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Have checked the RAM available in Windows after the scan? Share a screenshot if the issue still persists.
Hi... yes of course i checked the system settings. They are as per the attached image. The system settings report the same value as control panel system etc. Thanks for your assistance.
HI... Are you serious... Your email suggests that you think that this is resolved? Did you look at the the screen shot image? It is still misreporting... what my post says is that the system settings are reporting the same WRONG amount as the control panel... in case you were wondering what the control panel dialogue said. So still open issue... sorry.
Thanks... the devices.pci_balloon=0 setting made no difference. However I believe through testing I have an explanation. I found I am unable to alter the RAM in the parallels settings screen to be multiples, and the correct RAM amount is displayed in Windows. I.e. 4gb of RAM is correctly reported. Whilst 6gb of RAM is reported as 8gb (5.91 gb usable). 8gb of Ram is reported as 8gb. Windows seems incapable of reporting anything but a linear 2,4,8 etc. 6 is I believe reported as 8 but only 6 usable. Is this due to the "pairs" scenario in windows of only ever installing pairs of Ram at equal quantities etc?
