    Hi all

This is my first post so apologies if its in the wrong section.. I turned on my Mac Pro this morning as normal and went to parallels so that I could use Windows 10. I have had no issues at all since initially setting this up in June of this year. However, today I updated to Parallels 12 and now i can't boot in at all. Each time i try to i get the same error:

The specified file cannot be used as a virtual hard disk. Please specify another disk

and then after i click the ok button i get this

Unable to connect Hard Disk 0. A file ot device required for the operation of HardDisk 0 does not exist or is used by another process, or you have no permission to access it. The virtual machine will continue running, but the device will be disconnected.

There is a black box in the background and it is saying No boot device is availabe, press Enter to continue. I have tried to hit enter but nothing happens. Please can someone help me out here with where i am going wrong i would be eternally grateful as I am really pulling my hair out with this...

    Hello @LeeG2 ,
Please check if you're able to mount the PVM file on finder. Please check KB to mount the virtual machine files to finder. Also, please let us know the PVM bundle size.

Parallels Mounter is unable to browse the virtual hard disk

Make sure that the virtual disk is not corrupt and is not in use by Parallels Desktop or another application.

This is the message I get when i use step 2 mentioned above. PVM size is 70.3 MB.
Please can you advise on next steps to take? Windows 8.1.pvm is what is listed in Parallels folder within finder, however I have been running windows 10 for 6 weeks prior to it stop working.

Where would i find the log messages please?

    Hello @LeeG2,
It looks like there is no operating system installed on your virtual machine. If there is an operating system, the PVM file size will be in gigabytes.

I have reinstalled Parallels and started from scratch. No issues now apart from the fact that by reinstalling I have had to go back to Windows 8.1 so have lost Windows 10 which i installed due to the free upgrade offer which has now ended. Is there a way to get Windows 10 back without having to pay? I have not uninstalled any windows programmes from before when everything was working ok so the files should already be on my Mac somewhere.

Hi, did you downgrade your VM from Win 10 to Win 8? Or just installed new Vm with Win 8 OS?
