    Hi everyone,

I have the above problem and am following the recommended steps to resolve BUT I'm stopped at this line:-
    4. Drag the *.hdd file into Terminal and drop it right next to "prl_disk_tool merge --hdd ".
Is this the entire .pvm file if not where is *.hdd ?
Also I have two windows 10 .pvm files which is the right one ? (see snapshot)
    Many thanks,

    Hello ColinJ2.
Please click on the Parallels Desktop icon in the Mac menu bar on the top (it looks like 2 parallel red lines), select 'Control Center' from the menu that appears, right-click on where the Windows installation you are using is shown within the Control Center window and select 'Show in Finder' from the menu that appears. The .pvm file highlighted in the window that appears is the one you will need to work on.
It's not the entire .pvm file. Do it in this manner (take a backup of the .pvm file first):
1.) Type the following command in Terminal (do not hit 'Return' yet): prl_disk_tool merge --hdd
    2.)
Right-click on the .pvm file, select 'Show Package Contents' from the menu that appears and look for a file with the extension '.hdd'.
3.) Drag this .hdd file and drop it inside the Terminal window (do not close the screen in which you see the .hdd file yet; keep it open).
4.) In Terminal, you will now see an outcome similar to the example below (please note there should be a space between --hdd and /Users/Username...):
    prl_disk_tool merge --hdd /Users/Username/Documents/Parallels/Windows\ 7.pvm/Windows\ 7-0.hdd
    5.)
Press 'Return' to start merging Snapshots (this process removes all snapshots, including hidden ones). (IMPORTANT: Please wait till the operation completes; do NOT close the Terminal window before then.)
6.) Once the operation finishes, close Terminal.
7.) Now, go back to the window in which you saw the .hdd file. Move the folder 'Snapshots' and the file 'Snapshots.xml' to the Trash. Then close this window.

    Dear Hemnath,
Brilliant reply - It worked seamlessly.
However I am unable to resize drive C to match as the extend volume button is greyed out (kb 113972)
Your further help would be much appreciated,
    Regards,
    Colin

Would this merge tool work to merge backup files for Quickbooks (.qbb)?

  8. Please explain what do you mean? prl_disk_tool is the Parallels utilities.
