Corrupt HDD file

I recently had a mac HD crash and when I restarted Parallels from my backup I received an error saying that my winxp.hdd file was corrupt. I cannot restore it - I tried reviewing the kb and really did not come across any solutions that worked. Replacing the DiskDescriptor.xml from a known working winxp.hdd backup did not fix the problem. I can browse the package contents of my corrupt winxp.hdd. It contains numerous .hds (in the format of winxp.hdd.0.{?GUID?}.hds) files which I assume are related to previous snapshots. Additionally, if I try to use the snapshot manager to revert to a previous snapshot I get the cryptic error code "419502468".

BTW, I am using build 5160. I really just need to get my outlook .pst out of this winxp.hdd. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
Have you tried using Parallels Explorer? Or does that return the image as corrupt as well?
Have you tried going into the .hdd package and pulling things out and setting the extension to (I forget which off the top of my head) .iso or .dmg? (Note that will usually render you unable to use the .hdd, period, even if you switch it back).
 
Parallels explorer reports the HDD as corrupt as well. I have not tried to pull anything out and rename it. The only thing that I tried replacing was the DiskDescriptor.xml.

let's try this way:
1. In the Finder, browse to the virtual machine folder (the default path is: Documents-Parallels-Virtual Machine).
2. Find and delete the ".sav" and ".mem" files in the virtual machine folder.
Write me back, if you still have this problem.

There was no .sav file, however, there was a .mem file. Moving it to the trash did not solve the problem.
 
I think pulling things out and attempting to rename them still stands. Just make sure that you have it backed up before attempting it.

i did the recommended procedure again (using my most recent .hds file), and this time the vm started with a windows express installation screen. i entered my product key and then the program requested insertion of the installation cd. i stopped at this point as it appeared that it was trying to install windows xp.
 
if you have not got a clean clone on an external disk it means you need to start over

most of us have had to do that :-)
I now clone my best VM every weekend
(with the latest updates)
