Parallels 8 and Mac OS X Snow Lepard - whats the update path

Hey Guys,
i have a iMac late 2009 here with Snow Leopard and Parallels 8 (and Windows 8.1 Machine in it) - what ist the update path (update steps) for me to come to parallels version 14?

Make sure your Mac can support macOS X El Capitan or above. If it can then upgrade macOS X and then install Parallels Desktop 14. You can back up the PVM file as a precaution.
 
the mac supports Mac OS X 10.12 (Sierra) - so do i have to update to El Capitan (10.10) then install Parallels 14 and then upgrade to 10.12 (Sierra) or is ist also possible to upgrade directly to 12.12 (Sierra) and then install Parallels 14 ?

Can i reuse the virutal Machines i used in Parallels 8?
