Windows WM scaling disabled

Can anyone suggest how I stop parallels from disabling the font scaling and screen resolution in my windows WM. It used to be possible to configure all these settings within windows but now parallels is locking me out from the settings. Very frustrating since the parallels control centre has no obvious setting that is causing it. I'm using Parallels 14. Under the 3 resolution options, all give me no control over the font scaling.
