PD17 upgrade: Extremely slow Ubuntu 18 boot & crashes

Just upgraded to 17 and wondering whether it was a wise thing to do ...

PD17 install finished ok. Parallels Tools in Ubuntu 18 VM installed fine as well. However, every VM boot is taking ~2.5 min (up from the usual ~15 sec on PD16).

Anyone else having this?

Looking at dmesg it appears to stuck for 2 min just before "fbcon: Taking over console"? Any ideas what might be possibly causing this?

Also, likely unrelated to the above, I'm now seeing a bunch of crashes all at the same line in at /build/linux-hwe-5.4-Vo99CA/linux-hwe-5.4-5.4.0/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_gem.c:1035 in drm_gem_object_put() function:

On Mac Intel Big Sur 11.6, with VM Ubuntu 18.04, I also find startup and reboot very slow (with PD16 was a few seconds) and, overall, the VM seems less snappy than before.
 
I have very slow boots with all Ubuntu / Kubuntu / Ubuntu Budgie VMs.
Not Rocky Linux however, so the issue seems related to the current Ubuntu kernel(s).
If I start any of the Ubuntu VMs with the CD-ROM removed from virtualized hardware they start instantly, as expected. As soon as the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM emulator is available to the VM, they hang for upwards of 1-2 minutes before they boot with the CD/DVD icon in the window status bar blinking. It makes installing Parallel Tools impossible however - as you need an emulated optical drive to do it. :/
 
Hello everyone, I'm getting the same issue: I have actually a Linux Mint VM, upgraded to PD17 and boot is extremely slow. As said from @PeaK, removing the CD-ROM everything comes as PD16... When starting you can notice a continuous activity only from the virtual CD-ROM drive. Hope to have a fix asap...
 
Hello! I confirm what @LucaZ and @PeaK said. I removed from "Boot Order" (this is a translation from my Italian localization) the cd-rom and the boot happened in few seconds. About the performance, we'll see.

do you have a link to an ARM release of Rocky Linux for Mac M1?
