Upgrading from old version of Parallels Desktop

Hi,
lots of years ago I once bought a lifetime license of Parallels Desktop 2 that I upgraded to version 3 and finally 4. Now I'm thinking about using the newest release, i.e. version 17. Do I need to buy a complete new license? Or is an update sufficient? The website doesn't tell much about the requirements for update licenses IMHO...
