    Oh Well!

Been using Parallels since it came out about a year ago, purchased it at first opportunity. Very useful and it's worked well for me. However it looks like it's now the time to make a choice between Parallels 3.0 and Fusion. I *really* like Unity on Fusion, it's better than coherence due to...

What programs can I use? Mac Store guy says limited options...

That sounds like he's talking crap to be perfectly honest... maybe he is misinformed, or just meant that Parallels *is* "Windows for MAC" or something like that. Most software will work 100% it's just 3D games and stuff that does weird things with direct hardware access won't work. I'd give it...

    Solaris 10 And Additional HD's

Hi All Seems like lots of people are having success with Solaris - this is great! However mine still doesn't work. I have installed it twice on Parallels, both with PD 1.0 and most of the time it won't boot - just hands at the banner screen when it loads the kernel. I am now using Beta...

    USB impressions

I am running RC2 and have just decided to re-visit USB support, and from my personal experience it's working quite well. I can print to my Samsung ML-1510 laser printer, and scanning works with my (fairly ancient) Agfa Snapscan e26. The only real issue I have is that it's pretty darn slow...

    Solaris 10 6_06 release :)

Hi All Yep, I'm seeing this, about 50% of the time when booting on my MBP. it will just hang after the Solaris copyright banner - no disk activity but the host's CPU spins at 100%. Anyone else see this? James

    Memory usage

Hi All Just wanted to share something I'm noticing - it seems that Parallels uses rather a lot of RAM. I have just 256MB allocated to my Windows VM but Parallels seems to be eating up most of the 1GB RAM on my system. It's sluggish and I think it's swapping, from monitoring the "top" command...

    Idle VM caused Panic

I had a Windows 2003 VM running that wasn't doing anything. I just started importing a CD into iTunes and my system paniced: panic.log: ********* Thu Apr 13 15:15:29 2006 panic(cpu 1 caller 0x0019CAEF): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 1, Type 14=page fault), registers: CR0: 0x8001003b...

Pause button - what's the point?

Hi All I admit I may be too used to VMWare - but every time I want to suspend my Parallels VM I end up hitting the "Pause" button, which seems to just pause the currently running VM without suspending it. Can't quite see the point in this myself, does anyone else agree? It would be nice if...

    Bluetooth support status?

I imagine the best way to do this is not to support bluetooth as such, but just use map one of the virtual serial ports to /dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync. This of course would only give you access to the serial port profile, so no OBEX but this may not be a problem for most sync style applications...

    Connecting to guest via RDP

Beta3 - it now works. Parallels (the company and the product) rock!!

    Launch VM from Unix Shell

just wanted to bump this and also mention one way that parallels could implement this is with AppleScript support. Not too cross platform i guess though...

    Firefox/Java crashes in VM

I just installed Firefox to test this and it's working fine. I can use the test applet at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml with no problems. Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 on the virtual machine.

    Connecting to guest via RDP

I've taken my mac home where I have a slightly more complete network, and confirm that with Beta 2, I still can't establish an RDP session to my guest from the host machine (even though ping is OK), but it works perfectly from any other machine on the network. It's nice and fast as well :)

    Snapshot support

This is probably an obvious one but snapshot support for guest virtual disks would be excellent. Is this a planned feature for parallels?

    Connecting to guest via RDP

Hi I normally use RDP to administer my virtual windows machines (VMWare on Linux) however I can't seem to get this working very well. Probably a known issue with Parallels' networking. Using either rdesktop compiled from source on the host machine, or Microsoft's remote desktop client, I...

    VT-X disabled by firmware update?

OK - updated to new Firmware 1.0 and the vtx-check util reports the same thing VT-x is supported (reported by CPUID), but locked in MSR and can't be used Cheers James

    VT-X disabled by firmware update?

Guys As I said before - Mini Core Duo 1.66 purchased yesterday from London. No firmware updates applied by me. Serial number YM6092JZVJN: VT-x is supported (reported by CPUID), but locked in MSR and can't be used Cheers James

    VT-X disabled by firmware update?

Hi guys Just wanted to mention that I bought a mini yesterday (1.66 Duo / 1GB) and all I've done is update to 10.4.6 and installed Parallels - I haven't installed any new firmware for Boot Camp or otherwise. I get the message from Parallels that VT is disabled in the BIOS. Cheers James

Ability to share disk images between guests

Hi The reason I want to use Parallels on OS X is the same reason I use VMWare on Linux. I want to test configurations of various commercial products including Cluster products. Clusters normally require a shared SCSI disk so it would be really good if you could assign the same virtual disk...
