I used 3DS Max Backburner with Parallels 10 and Win 7 Pro for years. My iMac served several purposes and 1 was as a render slave for work. But since i had a huge crash and replaced my HD and reinstalled everything from scratch. I can not get it to work. My latest update is to go to Sierra and Parallels 12. Now i can get Max to open. I have not done much testing inside the editor but it did open. But i can not get it to run as a render slave.
Anyone out there doing something similar. Any Search on this forum comes up with nothing for 3ds Max.. or says it is too generic. ugh..
What happens is Backburner connects to the server and accepts a job. Then when it goes to open Max to render the image it Opens and then closes saying that it encountered an unhandled exception or something. I will get the proper wording later. No extra debug info available.
I am going to try setting some permissions on the folders.
I will try posting on the Autodesk forum as well.
    Thanks

Hello QuentinH, please reinstall Parallels Tools by starting your Windows virtual machine and go to Action(From menu bar)->Reinstall Parallels Tools. If the issue persists, please change the network mode to Bridge->Default Adapter (To use the Bridged networking mode, go to your virtual machine's Configuration > Hardware > Network and choose Bridged: Default Adapter)

Ok thanks i will try that. It is connecting to the network and talking with the server application.. it receives a job but fails still.. I will try. I am using wifi at the moment and have that set to Bridged already. It would not connect otherwise.

So i updated the tools and that did nothing. But i changed the UAC and that fixed it. I dont remember that being a problem in the past but it seemed to do the trick this time. I found that tip on a google. But it was very slow. I used to have a performance hit of about 10% because of the VM losses but i was happy with that. Now it is like 50% so i will look at the other post and see if there are some speeding up things i can do.
    Thanks

Please be informed that Parallels Desktop 12 Update 12.1.1 (41491) was released and the issue has been addressed. Please update Parallels Desktop to the latest build. Latest version always available here: www.parallels.com/directdownload/pd12 Please note that Parallels Tools also needs to be updated (Actions > Update Parallels Tools) and let us know how it works. Thanks!

    Hello,
I was able to install the updates and now Backburner works.
But the render speed is terrible. about half speed to what it should be. I have tried the basics for improving the speed but no change. I have not had time to do everything yet.. But it is not an interface usability speed i am talking about it is processing power. It used to work great in version 10?
    Thanks
