5540, OEM XP, 10.5, and Boot Camp

Okay, here is the deal, all new upgrades today.

Mac Pro 2x2.66.

After starting Parallels and getting the spinning beach ball forever, I quit and restarted again and tried to load up Boot Camp XP. I go an error saying "Unable to verify activation" and code 0x80070002. Immediately after hitting 'okay' I got kicked out to the log in screen. I tried to log in several times with no luck.
Then I decided to log into BC to see if everything was alright. There was an error saying that win32 services quit (or something like that), but otherwise I was able to boot just fine. I restarted XP for a system update and logged back in again. I did not get the win32 error the second time.
I then restarted into OS X, but am having the same issues.
Here is the deal, I work at a University and we all use the same OEM disk, so there is no activation of a license ever!
I also have a ghost of the same drive on my iMac and there are no such problems. (too bad they are not synced!)

Can anyone help?

The Parallels manual says that you must have a true XP Service Pack 2 CD - do you know if your OEM copy is a SP2 disk?

"Important: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2
is required for Windows XP installations). Do not use an upgrade version of Windows
and do not install an earlier version of Windows XP and attempt to update it later to
SP2. Use only 32-bit versions of Windows."
 
Hello,

please, try to perform the following:
1. Shut down your VM
2. Go to Finder -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
3. Type (w/o quotes) "mkdir ~/bc_bkp"
4. Type "sudo mv /Library/Parallels/.bc_backup/* ~/bc_bkp/"

Then check if everything works.

Thanks, but this is a ghost of an existing working PC drive, and it works on my iMac. Installation is not the issue I am having.

No, that didn't work.
 
Try to do it manually:
1. uninstall Parallels Descktop
2. go to Finder->Your HD Folder->Library. Copy Parallels folder, paste it somewhere as a backup and then return to Library and delete it.
3. install Parallels Desktop
Check if it worked.

I had already tried reinstalling it, but without deleting the Parallels folder. Now I'm getting the eternal spinning beach ball.

I am open to trying this, but it only happens when I use Parallels. I just booted into XP with no problems whatsoever. I did a disk clean up and installed my printer to see if that was what was causing errors. Turns out it wasn't...
:(
I really think this is an issue with Parallels tools. I can't boot long enough to get them installed, and there doesn't seem to be a way to boot into BC to install them in Safe Mode either.
If there was a stand-alone .exe for the newest Tools, I would really appreciate it!
 
Solution?

I had the same problem after upgrading to Leopard and re-installing WinXP on the "bootcamp" partition. What I did was:

1. Fresh install of Leopard; partition with Boot Camp Assistant;
2. Fresh install of WinXP SP2;
3. Boot from the 'bootcamp' partition; everything looks fine (no drivers installed)
4. Boot from OSX partition; install Parallels (beta 5540)

Trying to run Parallels I got the "beach ball of death" while booting and installing the Parallels tools. I force-quit and retry. While booting Windows tells me it needs to 'repair' the C drive (within Parallels), and it does successfully. But then I get "Error Code 0x80070002".

I did two things and now it works:
1. Boot from the 'bootcamp' partition and install Apple drivers;
2. I edited the VM and within the HD properties there's a button that "removes parallels data from bootcamp partition" (cannot see it now as I'm running the VM).

I tried again and Parallels successfully installed it's tools and I can log in. I haven't tried booting from the 'bootcamp' partition.
