Accessing localhost from Vista

I'm running Vista under PD using the "shared networking" option.

Here's my issue -- I have CVS running under OSX without a problem...but I'd also like to access the CVS site from Vista.

Is there any way to configure Vista so that it can access CVS under MacOSX using shared networking?
 
Well, just hit OS X's IP, DNS name, or whatever. If you want to stay internal poke into your system preferences and see the IPs listed there under the Parallels Network Adapters.

Isn't the IP listed under Parallels NAT dynamic? I'd like to set a static IP that can be reached from Vista to OSX without having to change it over time.

you can use your Mac's name as well instead of its ip.
Anyway, please, try to access localhost using Mac's ip too. Will it work?

No - I don't have a clear understanding of how that works.

Since the original posting - I put up a local SVN repository that fits my needs. So my original goal to get CVS up and running on a Mac and accessible from Vista under Parallels is no longer holding me up.

But if you are able to briefly explain how I could've done it - or point me in the right direction, I'd still like to know how.
 
ip works, but not name

I can access the Mac by ip address, but not name. (it's named Work-Computer, and I've tried pinging Work-Computer and Work-Computer.local...neither one works)

But the IP address changes so I'd prefer to use name if possible

fwong, please, try to do the following:

in the Configuration Editor of the VM, press "Add" button and add new Network Adapter. Choose a Host-only type for it. In this host-only connection Mac will have a static ip, something like 10.37.129.2 (please, open Terminal, enter "ifconfig" command and in the en2 section check for the precise ip address). Thus, you will be able to access your localhost using this ip.

If you experience any problems, please, write me back.
 
i followed these directions, but i had no luck.

i can ping the new ip from windows, but when i try to access the same ip from IE i get the page cannot be displayed.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ping 10.211.55.2

i finally got it to work.

the missing step was to go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet and Start sharing.

then I copied the IP address on the bottom the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Services page and pasted it into IE in Parallels and it worked.
