activating windows 7

Win 7 Ultimate, installed already on my PC. was able to install and enter registration key off the box, but i keep on being asked to activate windows, when putting the key again it just loops to the same point.
any ideas?

Please try to activate your Windows Virtual Machine by following the steps as suggested at : http://kb.parallels.com/113879

tried and failed. method 1 does nothing, with 2 i have the problem that i can't seem to be able to get into safe mode as F8 does not do it. method 3 is not coming as an option on win 7.
am i doing anything wrong or is there another way? the support by microsoft suggests the above information relevant for other versions of windows, not 7.
any ideas? should i just re-install windows? parallels?
