"activation key cannot be used with the current version"

About a month ago, I uninstalled parallels desktop. Now when I try to install the retail version I purchased or a download of the latest build the activation key is not accepted and the response is "The activation key cannot be used with the current version of Parallels Desktop!" I know that I am typing in the activation key correctly because if I change one key the response becomes "invalid activation key."

Can anyone assist with this problem?
 
Hello,

there are two possible reasons of your problem:
1. you have installed Parallels Tools 3.0 while your key is for Parallels Desktop 2.x.
2. you have installed US/UK version while your key is for localized version or vice versa.
