adding a "path" to the open dialog "pane" for "shortcut"

Hi. I wish I knew the terminology for this so I could search for it but I am using various 3D software and I would like to add a folder or a hard drive to the Open Dialog on the left hand side so that I can use it as a "shorcut".

I am having a terrible time having to navigate through the Guest and Host icons and I just want to try and add a shorcut to a drive and/or a folder that I use frequently.

Hi All.

I seem to have found this in the Tools > Add Folder To Places pulldown in an open dialog.

Does anyone happen to know if it is possible to apply these Places /globally/ instead of having to go through each software program and add all of these to every single program that I want to have them in?

Also, does anyone happy to know if there is a reason why some of my host folders such as Documents and Desktop in OSX have this pulldown greyed out and cannot be added to the VM Places pane? I am trying to add these two folders and the pulldown is not allowing me to add these two.
