Hi What are the advantages of using 2X application Server over the basic Windows 2003 Terminal Services? What in your mind justifies the added expense of using 2X? Does publishing applications using 2X App Server use less resources than using Remote Desktop? If so what is the approximate percentaged saved? Thanks, Simon
For some users a full screen publish on top of their normal desktop is way too complicated. If all they have to do is go to the 2x client or web page, then this is more of the point and click they are used to. An even better option is helping them setup a shortcut on their desktop. After that, they really don't know that the application is not running on their system.
Yes I can see that as an issue but you can has TS run a program when the user connects which means they do not actually see another desktop. So by clicking on the Remote Desktop Icon they can go straight into the remote application. I suppose they have access multiple apps then this method is not appropriate.
How about this. In a large environment, you may have some users that need access to only a few applications like Word and Excel, but a select few may need microsoft Access. By filtering correctly, you could present these apps to only that select group of individuals. Throw load balancing into the mix and the ability to reduce windows client licenses by deploying PXE boot workstations on old hardware that use the application server product for free and you are looking as some real cost savings. I agree if you only have one application to publish then 2X may be over kill, but at the price, the ease of management of the 2x product really makes a big difference.
