Anti virus conflict with 'Coherence' mode

Hello,

We have 2 brand new Macbook pro in our office. We recently installed LION and ugraded to Parallels Desktop 7. Everything is working fine except the 'Coherence' service which is not usable from a few days.

I do not remember making any recent changes to my machine, however, I did install ESET NOD32 Anti virus recently and assume that it may be blocking the 'Coherence; service. I do not wish to un-install the anti virus I purchased.

What can be the solution for me at this point. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.

There are no steps how to add Coherence service into the list of exceptions. However, I managed to find the instructions for this online, but still Coherence does not work. As I said, I do not wish to remove my ant virus and still want Coherence to work.

That's more like an ad than a serious knowledge base article. Parallels should work together with AV vendors to provide the best experience to users and not push a particular software piece. Parallels should be software vendor agnostic as your job is to provide and environment that can virtualize most common software solutions.
 
This is not an add for one reason - Kaspersky is not Parallels Product. It has been tested and has no conflicts with Parallels Services. Unfortunately it is not possible to make all antiviruses to ignore PTools as they has been designed for Real hardware and thik Tools to be a virus, databases updated all the time so we are to able to follow all updates. The only workaround is to add it to exception list.

Antiviruses cause a lot of problems with correct use of application - this is the main reason why we suggest the one which works best together with Tools.
 
What other AVs have been tested and what are the results?

If only Kaspersky has been tested than that article is an ad and not a serious document. As you can't say 'this is the only one that doesn't cause problems' (which is what you are saying).

If other AVs have been tested, (hence, making the conclusion that this is the best one) make the results public to turn that article into a serious technical document, in fact, let me help you with that, Microsoft Security Essentials works flawlessly, you can add that information.

If AVs are a moving target, that's what you just said, so is any other piece of software.
Finally, what's so special about Kaspersky that makes it compatible? Is information shared between the two companies? If so, why give the privilege to Kaspersky? Because they pay you?

Well it is obvious other AVs has been tested and the result is similar - a lot of AVs may block PTools services (btw it depends on a system - a lot of people use NOD32 in VM, so this is individual).
And to tell the truth if we were sharing all results of all testing regarding any aspect of application performance - we would not have enough space on the server to keep all KBs.

What we actually do - is not making all tests available but sharing the advice based on our testing.

If you feel fine with your antivirus - we are not making you switch. If there is a conflict - there is one solution and one workaround - both of them are described above
 
It's not a considered a valid argument in a discussion, and it is in fact a logic flaw, to exaggerate a point to it's worst possible limit to make it look ridicule. Which is what you did by saying "if we were sharing all results of all testing regarding any aspect of application performance", this is obviously not what I said, I didn't ask to reveal all aspects of application performances you test at Parallels.

But actually, that would be a good idea, the same way that the WINE project keeps an updated, public, list of all applications tested with results, it would be useful for Parallels to do the same. And WINE is a non-comercial and apparently they can pay for 'all that space' on their servers.

I didn't post my point in several places, I commented on the KB, used the feedback box, which seemed, and IS, the correct thing to do, in fact, that's one of the things DeShawn asked me to do on one email he sent me weeks ago, to help improve kbs.
 
WINE is an open source software and this is the reason they share this information with public.
Dear Specimen, what i am saying is different - Parallels advices to use Kaspersky as an antivirus with no (or at least the less) drawbacks on VM performance. It is not an ad, it is opportunity to make it easier to choose antivirus software without searching and testing on personal environment.

If you are happy with any other AV - nothing wrong going to happen with your VM and nobody would try to make you believe you need to switch.
Even if it were an ad - i cannot see any reason to be outraged by this fact - you said we need to work together with AV vendors - that's what we are doing.
 
Kaspersky Doesn't Fix The Problem Either

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 for Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac and I cannot enter Coherence. It was working fine until I had updates to Windows 7. Are there any known issues with Windows 7?
 
in case your issue occurred after Windows Updates installation - the issue is probably connected with improper updates installation or Tools corruption.
I suggest you to reinstall Parallels Tools or use a backup if you have one - restore a backup, make a Snapshot and try to install updates one more time
