Apps Disappear

I have been using Parallels Desktop for Mac and running Windows XP. I have downloaded and/or loaded several different apps while in VM. They work great. However, if I shut down Parrallels and come back later, the app is gone as well as any settings that I may have changed in Windows XP. An example would be downloading Firefox and setting it as my defaut web browser. When I shut parallels down and than restart it, Firefox is gone and IE is back as default.

Did you turn off your VM properly?
I mean: Start->Shut Down->Shut Down
