Auto reconnect USB device?

I have a USB to serial adapter hooked up to my iMac. It works okay under Windows XP, but I have one problem...

When I start the VM up, the adapter isn't connected automatically. I have to manually enable it or unplug it from the Mac and plug it back in (with Automatically Connect enabled).

There has to be a way to do have it automatically reconnect this device on startup, right?
 
Also, to clarify: The device stays connected if I suspend and then resume the VM. Parallels disconnects it when the VM stops or restarts. That's the problem. I want Parallels to automatically connect that device on a VM Start.

Yes, as stated in the original post I do.

Auto connect only works when you plug a device into a USB port. This USB to Serial adapter is staying connecting.

Actually, should autoconect anything already attached.

Does it work if autoselect is deselected and then you select after booting in XP?

I'm not sure how to do that. It never lets me change any VM configuration options when the VM is running. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong?

Changes to the configuration must be made when the VM is not running.

Launch Parallels and make the changes prior to running the VM or after you Turn-Off XP, prior to exiting Parallels.

If you have autorun and auto exit selected, you made changing the configuration more difficult BUT not impossible.

FIRST! Make a backup of your VM!
As soon as Windows starts to boot, hit the RED stop button to exit windows.
You can now make changes to the Parallels configuration.

I strongly advice against BOTH auto start AND auto exit. As you can see why? :)

Ah yea. I see what you mean, I thought you were implying I should deselect Auto Connect, Start XP and then turn back on Auto Connect, hence my confusion.

No, turning on or off auto connect makes no difference at all.

When usb device is already in place when you start vm he won't recognize it and you have to do it manualy. When you put new device in while vm is working he recognize it. This is how it works on my mac.
