I’m running a new MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz; 1 GB SDRAM; Mac OS 10.4.7) and purchased a boxed, full version of Parallels Desktop for Mac from my local Apple Store. I then upgraded D4M to Beta Upgrade 2.2 build 1862 online.
Then, attempted to install a full, newly purchased version of XP Home using the D4M Quick Start Guide “Installing Windows XP.†First anomaly was Step #6: ALL devices in the Devices drop-down menu were grayed out. Thus, with nothing to choose, I inserted Win XP install disc and clicked the Power On button on the D4M Desktop.
XP started to install and then in about 1 minute failed (before receiving any instruction to format the drive) and the VM’s window disappeared, defaulting back to the D4M Desktop with no error message.
Tried the XP install again with XP disc and immediately received this error message:
"INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 512. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to continue."
Tried both deleting the VM and the entire D4M app and reinstalling each twice with same failures and error message each time.
Then, using the stand-alone D4M Image Tool, I created an .iso file of the entire XP Install Disc on my Mac HD. After deleting and reinstalling VM and app, tried to install XP again from .iso—using the correct selections and path in D4M Config Editor—and the install immediately failed with this error message:
"Line 1 of the INF file \i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit."
As I’m about to depart for my first road trip as a Macolyte, I’m now switching to Apple’s Boot Camp facility… I hope against hope for at least functionality with the two Windows apps I still need to run, even if I must reboot.
