Black Screen not after any updates - not very experienced user

Hi all,
I am not very experienced in using a virtual machine - bear with me. I had not updated anything when my windows went black after rebooting. My graphics allocations had been set pretty high as per the specs for my mapping software (which is what I use windows for). I had not updated any software for 9 months (I have since done so, which did not change anything). Any advice for trouble shooting the black screen? I have tried a few web pages to no avail.

Never mind....the problem resolved itself once I 'stopped' the machine within parallels instead of CTL+ALT+DELing within OSX. As I said, I am very inexperienced! Windows just kills me!
