Blue Screen Problem Identified

I previously reported my problem of Windows blue-screening under native BootCamp - after I installed Parallels. The blue screening never happened when running under Parallels. This happened in both 3186 and 3188.

After a lot of frustration and stuffing around, have finally identified that it was the Windows Automatic Software Update Service causing the problem. Once I turned it off, the error no longer happens.

I think there is a conflict b/w the Parallels drivers/tools and Auto-Update service.

Can Parallels please look into this problem as I can no longer get any security updates. I believe other people in this forum have reported a related problem, where the Windows software updates never complete.
 
You can still get updates without auto turned on.

Go to start, programs then click windows update.

On XP its a web driven page on Vista its a custom application like OSX.
 
I think that feature has been changed recently.

I went to IE, and ran Windows Update manually from the menu. It reports that a number of services must be abled to proceed, one those is the Auto Update Service.
 
OK if that is the case i wasnt aware of that.

I know they are always trying to get you to use auto updates but i have never seen them force you to turn it on.

I have mine in xp turned to notify only, no downloading or installing and this works 100%.
 
I think notify only still requires auto-update service turned on. My crashing seems to happen whenever the mechanism tries to communicate with Microsoft.

What I found was that as soon as I logged into Windows, the blue screen will happen very soon - depending on the speed of the network.

Today, I have the service turned off, and never blue screened again - so I am pretty sure it is the culprit.
