Boot problem

Hi Forum users,

Recently I update my Parallels desktop for Mac to last version 9.0.24229, and now, one of my virtual machines don't boot, it show the message:

Parallels Picture.png

and then, the EFI shell is showed:

Any help to put my virtual machine to work will be very apprecied.

Hi DavidMartiB,

To boot Windows Virtual Machine normally, Please follow the steps given :

1. Start Parallels Desktop. Do not start your Virtual Machine or shut it down if it is running.

2. Go to your Virtual Machine's Configuration (http://kb.parallels.com/117287) > Hardware > Boot order > un-check 'Use EFI Boot'.

Disabling EFI boot don't solve my boot problem. I booted this virtual machine with a System Rescue Linux LiveCD and suspect the .hdd file is corrupted.

I've restored the virtual machine from a backup and now is working.
 
I'm having the same problem. I had been restoring backups as needed but I'm reporting it since I saw this thread. Disabling EFI boot causes Parallels to report that there is no OS on this partition.

EDIT: This happens every time I try to change my Win2k12 HDD size.

Snap! Same here.

Updated to latest version of parallels (9.0.24237), have increased Windows Server 2012 disk twice, shut down once more to increase memory allocation and then bang! Can't boot up - disk corrupted!
I've used diskpart and can see the 80GB drive but it has no readable volumes on it and Parallels mounter won't mount it.


This has set my business back about 2 days as this was one of our main development VMs.

Can Parallels help us out please - I am concerned about this happening again!
 
Yes, thanks. I've done this - Support are connecting up in 90 minutes to take a look.

Seems I'm not alone though - any idea what has caused this? Anything others can do to avoid it in the future...?

Thanks for reply.

Managing Disk size is serious process. Any electricity jump or unexpected reboot or forced cancelling can cause a disk corruption. Actually there are a lot of reasons for that. That is why there is a special GUI message appears before resizing that we strongly recommend to have a back up. So the most reliable way to avoid - always be sure that there is a fresh back up of the .pvm file, or Time Machine is working or any other back up tool.
 
Yeah sure I get all that and do heed the warnings but there was no such warning for me simply increasing the memory allocation. The VM was running fine after increasing the disk sizes. It was when I shut it down and increased the memory that I had a problem...
