Bootcamp will not work after 3150 problems

Now I'm very frustrated. I have been trying top get Parallels beta to work with my bootcamp partition. Bootcamp has always worked fine for me (32G Fat32). I have been getting the "Unable to open disk image Boot Camp" error. I initially had 3120 installed, (and the tools for boot camp) and then went to 3150. I didn't know to remove the boot camp tools BEFORE I ran 3150, got an error, went back to Bootcamp, uninstalled the tools. I was still unable to access the bootcamp disk image. I copied the sp2.cab file from my Windows XP disk as recommended in the forums.

NOW, I cannot boot into BootCamp! I get a very slow boot process, an error that my video driver is not installed, and then when windows starts, my keyboard and mouse do not work! I cannot boot into XP safe mode because the keyboard does not respond. I tried to install the latest bootcamp 1.1.2 drivers, but again, with no keyboard or mouse, I can't do that!

I cannot think of anything else to do except re-do my whole Boot Camp installation which I am very loath to do!

Some suggestions:

Unplug any USB cables you have plugged into the computer. My own Bootcamp VM will not load if my USB drive is plugged in before I start the Windows booter.

Also try deleting the Parallels VM file and create a new Bootcamp VM. You might want to do this after (if) you can uninstall Tools from the VM. Can you get into SAFE Mode at all, or does the message appear before the Windows booter starts?

When you press the Play button using the Bootcamp VM, there is a moment before any booting happens with the system. I think Parallels is configuring/install drivers to prepare the system to use the Bootcamp partition at this time. After this is finished, it uses a separate hardware profile to load Bootcamp with Parallels. Right now, I believe, your Bootcamp partition is configured for Parallels' hardware profile.

It would be nice to have backups of the files Parallels overwrites or alters during the process it goes through before Windows actually starts booting. That way, if something like this happens, these files can be restored so that the Bootcamp partition can at least be used natively again. Of course, the safe thing to do, at least, is to periodically backup your entire partition, especially when working with these BETAS. If you had a backup then you could just restore your backup, but since you don't, I won't say another word about it, unless you have questions on how to make a backup of your bootcamp partition.
