booting from hard drive....

Hello first post here,

I am having issues with my parallels 3.0 for mac. My apple OS is snow leopard (10.5) and I have an intel processor. Every time I try and install, I cannot open my windows program, instead when I launch parallels I get a black screen with the following message: booting from hard drive.... and then the screen freezes, nothing happens. I am wondering whether it is a compatibility issue because I am trying to install windows xp pro sp1 with the specifications above^. Please I would appreciate some advice because I don't want to waste more time with this. Thanks.
 
Have you installed XP? It's not clear if you are having problems booting XP or installing XP.

If you haven't even installed XP yet, try creating a brand new VM.

Well, I do successfully install windows, but when I go to boot it does not work. I also tried to delete previous vm's and re-install xp but to no avail. I was wondering if my version of windows/os/parallels are compatible.
 
What hardware "Location" do you have set for the boot drive you are trying to use? And what is your boot order?

This is all in the VM Configure dialog under Hardware.

Im using the hard drive location of windows, and the boot order is hard drive, cd-rom, and floppy. should I upgrade my version of parallels? or should I use a different version of windows xp? (i am using sp1)
 
No, by location I mean: SATA, SCSI, IDE, etc. One of the options you can select in the hard drive hardware preferences.
