Both Mac and Windows VM running very slowly

Hi,

I'm not a Mac user myself, but I work in an IT team, and we support a user who does have a Mac. I made a small desktop application that he'd like to use, so we got him Parallels 11 so that he could install Windows 7 and use the application, along with accessing things on our network more easily. It started well, but now both the Windows 7 VM and the Mac grind to a halt when the VM is open. It literally takes 10 or more seconds to open a menu item, and my application takes a massive amount of time to load, as does any of the applications in fact.

The Mac has the following spec:
  • 2.7Ghz Intel i5 processor
  • 4GB memory
  • AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB
  • Running OS X El Capitan
I've tried a few things mentioned on here and on the support including an NV RAM command, allocating more and less memory, checking that detailed log messages are not being created, and making sure it's tuned for speed. But none of these things have helped. It should be able to run at a decent enough speed, it's only running Windows 7 and a small application, it's not consuming all of the memory or CPU, so it should run fine.

Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas how to fix it?

Go to Actions > Configure > Options > Optimization > disable Free Space: Real-time Virtual Disk Optimization.

If the "Real-time Virtual Disk Optimization" option is enabled, it may slow disk performance up to 30% (at the moment of compaction, not constantly). If the host has an SSD disk, the feature will be enabled by default for all virtual machines but will work only if it is compatible with the guest OS.

Open virtual machine configuration > switch to Options tab > Optimization tab > Set performance to Faster virtual machine; check Enable adaptive hypervisor and Tune Windows for speed. If you're not running on battery power, you can also turn on the Better performance option.

Thanks for your reply, I've only just had chance to check the settings, and they're already set to those parameters. Is there anything else I can try?
