Hello, I have been using Parallels on my Apple laptops for many years. The one I've been using for about 5 years is a MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i5 processor. Now I would like to buy a new MacBook Pro with M1 or M2/M2 Pro chips. But I need to use my current Windows 10 with everything installed from my current Parallels and move it to the new MacBook. I know there have been problems with this in the past. I ask you if everything is resolved now and I can move everything to the new MacBooks, or if I can take the not very recent M1 and if Parallels guarantee full functionality on this one. Thank you.
You can't use your current Windows 10 Intel VM (or any Intel VM) on an M-series Mac. This is not something that will ever be resolved because it's just how virtualization works. There is unfortunately also no Windows 10 on ARM version available that runs on M-series Macs (except a very old expired Insider build).
Maybe can I: - upgrade my Windows 10 to Windows 11 - buy MacBook pro with M1 or M2 - buy Parallels and Windows 11 on new MacBook - copy folders from old MacBook (Windows) and past on new MacBook (Windows) - download and install new version of my Windows programs and install on new MacBook? Thanks.
Yes, that is possible. You probably won't even need to buy another Windows license As long as your existing license is linked to your Microsoft account and not an OEM license, you should be able to transfer it to your new M-series VM. Copying data from your old VM is possible too. You need to copy the old VM to the new Mac first. Then follow these instructions: https://kb.parallels.com/en/125344
