Can I start from a vmdk alone?

Hi,

I have been given a .vmdk virtual disk file with Windows 7 installed and all configured. I only have the .vmdk. I do not have VMWare to start it up and install anything and I do not have a .vmx file.

Someone else I know has VMWare Fusion, and they just pointed at this same file and booted (and I guess the software created the vm around the disk). I cannot find a way for Parallels to recognize it and I am not in a position to ask this person with Fusion to help.

Is there any way I can convert or boot this thing up in Parallels (8)?

Thanks.

Disk image is not enough to run a VM, you'll also need a configuration file (.vmx).
What you can do is to install fusion trial, create a VM with your disk image, make sure it boots, and then import that VM into PD8.
