Can I work with AVCHD files on my Mac via Parallels and Windows 7?

I am looking to buy a new camcorder, the Sony CX550V. It will be my first AVCHD camcorder.

From what I understand, working with AVCHD on a Mac is a total nightmare. iMovie barely supports it.

    So, I had an idea....

Why not go into Windows 7 via Parallels and use one of the award winning AVCHD programs like Pinnacle to transfer my movies to Mac (via the virtual machine).

    Can it be done?

The only problem I see is that my Mac has 4GB of memory and it is a 2.8GHZ. I run 2MB memory for my virtual machine. Hopefully that will be enough to do the job.

Anyone else working with AVCHD through a virtual machine and does it work well?
