can not see anyother computers in my network places

I need to beable to see other windows computers on the ethernet network to be able to use Quickbooks. No amount of configurations I have tried yet work.

I can not see any other computers in my network places or work group computers

please help

can you ping the workstations? By computer name, IP address or both? are you using shared networking or bridged?

same issue

I am having the same issue. I cannot see any other PC computers on my network through windows. I can see everything from the MAC side, but cannot open my QuickBooks files located on another computer, since I cannot even see it.

This is my initial setup and I don't know if I have a setting incorrect, but it is frustating.

Please help. I love my macbook pro and the concept is great, I just need to get over this hurdle.

Try bridged networking rather than shared. Turn off your software firewalls temporarily while testing, disable windows firewall. reboot your machines. Windows machines sometimes take up to 30 minutes to show up in the network pane. Can the windows machines see parallels machine? Can the windows machines all see each other? Are you sure that your parallels VM is attached to the same workgroup (same name, same gateway etc.?) Does your gateway have some type of security filter turned on - MAC filtering for example. Are you trying to connect via wireless or by ethernet?

Thank you very much. I disabled my windows firewall and changed it to a bridged network and rebooted and I could see my whole network. Before I made the changes, I could not see my macbook pro from my windows network. Being unfamilar with parallels I was reading the book last night and was thinking about the different types of networks, but the descriptions are vague for someone who is not a networking person. It was interesting that no where in the manual or on-line knowledge base did it mention information (plain english) about connecting to your current windows network.

I thank you very for you help and now that it is setup, hopefully it will run smooth. I purchased my macbook pro on the thursday night and I am loving the stability of it compared to PC's.

Fix for winxp workgroup problem!

This fixed my problem with the Hidden Workgroup Machines. Thanks. I turned on Bridged Networking and Turned of XP Forewwall and rebooted! Fixed! Thanks!

I recently read this thread because of problems getting two Windows 11 virtual machines to see each other using Parallels 18. I tried everything I found in this thread, other threads, and through google searches, but nothing made the computers "see" each other under the "Network" tab of Windows Explorer. I needed to map a network drive so my paralegal had access to Quickbooks Pro 2019. I just happened to stumble across a solution. On the client iMac, my Windows VM ID was listed under the "Network" icon in Finder. I mounted the Windows "server" within Finder. I went into Windows Explorer, which still did not show the Windows server under Network, and typed in the path to the host computer. For example, if the name of the host is "bobscomputa23b," in the path bar in Windows Explorer for the client machine, type in "\\bobscomputa123b" then <enter>. There may have been another step after that, I don't recall, but the upshot is that the client machine connected to the host and I was able to mount the shared folder for Quickbooks.
