Can you install parallels on a 3.0 USB Drive

Hi guys:

So I have a 2011 Macbook Air 11''. I got a really good deal on; thus, it is the 64 GB model. I am now in need of Windows for my job and want don't want to buy a laptop. So I only have a couple of gigs left on my internal SSD, but I also have a 64 GB USB flash drive (3.0). I was wondering if it is possible to install windows and parallels 9 on there to preserve the little space I have left on my Air. I don't want to go out and buy windows software if it is not going to work. Thanks guys!!
 
I am in the same situation and want to know the same answer. I'm trying to preserve the memory on my Macbook. It would be incredibly convenient if I could just plug in a thumb drive anytime I needed to use a different OS! Can anyone answer this question?
 
I'm also trying to do this. According to a support person I spoke with, this should be fairly straightforward: "Just" copy the PVM file to the thumb drive. The glitch that I've found is that the MAC balks at copying a very large file (format does not permit it.) I don't yet know what the resolution to this is - for example, how the thumb drive might be formatted.
