Cannot connect to Dynamics server using Report Designer

Wondering if anyone has any insight here:
I upgraded to the latest version of Parallels this year and am running Windows 7 64bit, firewall disabled, bridged DHCP (wired for now).
I cannot connect to our Dynamics server using its hostname or IP address. This was not an issue prior to this update.
Anyone willing to suggest some first troubleshooting steps? I do not know if I should be working within the Windows VM to resolve or on OSX.
 
hm, the only thought is that required port is closed which can be checked via telnet from the Guest. Checking with wireshark is a good idea.
