Cannot use internet in vitual machine after upgrade to 3846 (using Snow Leopard)

Regardless of how many times I boot the machine or change the network configuration, the network adapter is alwasy in the process of "acquiring a network address" which is why I started this thread in the first place.

I tried the ping command as suggested above and was returned

"Unable to initialize Windows Sockets interface, error code 0"
