Can't acquire IP Address

What are the proper settings for my VM (Windows XP) to get an ip address from my router?

For some reason, no matter what I've tried, I can't get it to work (@work).

For background, our company blocks most ports on dynamically assigned devices. My MacBook Pro is within a pool of static IP Addresses that is wide open. I'd like to verify that I have connection to the router before I input my static IP for Windows XP. I can choose Shared network and access the web, but I need Windows to be within the pool of Static IPs for other devices on my network to communicate with it. I have literally spent a combined 24+ hours trying to figure this out. Now, when I go home and I just have a run of the mill network and an Apple Airport Extreme, all is fine.

Try using "Bridged Networking" and choose the type of network hardware you are using (wireless, ethernet..). Now, you will have to configure your XP machine as if it was any other Windows box connecting to your network.. If you are on a Windows domain, you will have to join it to the domain and assign an IP address, as well as the other network settings (DNS, Gateway, WINS..).

The easiest setup if encountered so far (only been using this a week), is to have the Mac hooked up to ethernet via DHCP, setting the VM as "Bridged", joining the VM to the domain, and have the VM setup with DHCP.

It seems like things can get tricky when both the Mac and the VM have a static IP address.. especially since they are accessing the network via the same port (on the wall).
