I've been a happy camper for years, my minimal XP install has been working for the few PC software I need. However, since upgrading to v10 I've somehow lost the ability to install anything. The last 2 installers I've tried have all tried to install something in a specific folder but not matter what I do I can't regain enough "privileges". "Access denied" is a common error message.

I've played a little within the folder properties, but the "read only" box is almost always checked even if I uncheck it.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Hello,

You may start troubleshooting from scanning your OS on the system errors.

    For example:

    1) insert Windows XP installation media
    2) open command line and run "sfc /scannow" command without quotes and hit enter.

The output may show something, if system files are damaged.

But generally, the strongest solution will be:

    1) Make a snapshot: Actions -> create a snapshot (under Parallels Desktop 10) OR Virtual machine -> Create a snapshot under Parallels Desktop 9,8,7...
    2) Go to VM's config: Actions -> Configure OR Virtual machine -> Configure
    3) on Hardware Tab change the sequence of devices, make CD to be on the top
    4) insert Windows XP installation media and boot the machine
    5) press any key on the boot stage to launch from CD
    6) perform Repair installation.

Please refer to http://kb.parallels.com/en/5138 for extended instructions.
