Can't print from Stamps.com

Am am using the HP Laserjet 8500PS setup recommended by Stamps.com. However, when I try to print a sample envelope I get the following error in the printer dialog:

"pstopdffilter/pstocupsraster failed with err number -31000"

Does anybody know what this means?
