Checking file system on c:

About 90% of the time I start VM (Windows XP on MacBook Pro), I get the blue screen and the "checking file system on c:" process starts, which then chugs away under it's done. XP then starts, but much more slowly than the ten percent of the time the "check file" process doesn't kick in. This started with one of the earlier betas (4?) and continues unabated through the updates. Any suggestions as to how to reduce the occurances of this?
 
i had the same problem. i think it occurs when you install a device that isn't recognised properly - a USB hub, storage device etc. It gets a bit boring BUT you can just hit a key for it to move on to starting XP.
 
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, on my machine, hitting any key does not cancely the process, so I have to wait until the end.
Any suggestions on how to get "hit any key to cancel" to work?
 
Thank you, Andrew. That did the trick. I have been shutting down by clicking the red, square "power off" button, rather than going through the Windows menu Start>Shutdown. When I do that, the check system process doesn't show up.
