Cisco VPN Problem

while connected to VPN via cisco vpn client (+shimo) i cannot connect to any of websites inside vpn from within the guest operating system. i can ping them fine, but browser times out when i connect to websites i know to be up (by basically going there with safari).

the host operating system has no such issues and connects to vpn resources fine.

osx 10.5.1, win xp pro sp2, sprint evdo, cisco vpn client + shimo.

have you tried different browsers?

If you can't load the pages in different browsers, there might be a Browser problem.

1.In Internet Explorer go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections. Dial-up and VPN settings field must be clear. Open LAN settings and enable Automatically detect settings.
2. In Firefox go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network tab -> Settings. Make sure all proxy settings are disabled.

Check the connection again.

We are having the same problem in our office, multiple Mac users running Tiger and Leopard, using Parallels 3 build 5584 shared networking. When using Sprint EVDO USB modem and Cisco VPN client, everything works fine on the Mac host side but the Windows XP guest does not actually use the VPN routes. The guest OS is able to ping out and access other websites but not using specific routes passed to the host from the Cisco VPN client. So we are unable to run some secure applications through the wireless VPN which has been a big problem for us.

For a comparision, I tried VMware Fusion 1.1.3 and it worked fine while connected to Sprint and VPN. I far prefer Parallels however and would love this to be fixed. Anyone else run into this? The issue could be Parallels uses actual host interfaces where vmware does not so somehow vmware passes to the host network and can use the VPN over wireless just fine.
 
Network failure w Mac VPN

I have been having the same problem for several weeks. At first the ip access was intermittent then it shut down. Now, when the Host OS is in VPN all ip traffic is shut down on the Guest OS. When VPN is disconnected, the Guest OS has access to the internet. This was not the case until very recently. I have been using the Host/Guest system connected through the VPN without problems since January. I cannot mentally connect the symptoms with a software update....but they happen too frequently these days to be sure.

OS X 10.5.4 (Cisco VPN 4.9.01 (0030)) Parallels 3.0 build 5608 / XP pro
 
Problem with Cisco and Notes and Windows Shares

We too have problems connecting to Lotus Notes and to mount network shares when connected via cisco VPN.

Hello,

I have solved the problem by using bridged networking instead of shared networking and explicitly configuring the DNS host in he physical network card on the guest system instead of having it automatically set.
