I'm in my 14-day trial for Parallels Desktop. Running Civ 4 in Windows is my primary reason for Parallels. When starting up the program, I get the following dialogue popup:

Initialize Renderer failed. Check DirectX Installation, Latest Graphics Drivers and Graphics Settings Parameters

    -Width =1024
    - height =768
    - flags = 0xc
    - hwnd =0x701a0
    - adaptrid =0
    - deviceid =3

Error: Creation failed: Invalid 3D device type
    Here's what I've tried:
    • Reinstalling Civ 4
    • Restarting Windows 7
    • Restarting OS X
    • Increasing the graphics memory in Parallels to 1GB
    • Trying DirectX 9 in the Display settings for Parallels instead of DirectX 10.
None of these have helped. Any thoughts?

Hi, please note that Parallels Tools needs to be updated (Actions > Update or reinstall Parallels Tools) and then restart your Windows virtual machine and check how it works. If the issue persists, please provide us a screenshot of the error message, so that we can understand that issue better we can help you better.

Reinstalling the Parallel Tools seemed to fix it; thanks a bunch!

Hi, I have almost exactly the same problem except I'm running Sierra as a VM on a Catalina 2019 MBP. Just using the 14 day trial to see if I can get some of these old games to work but come up with exactly the same error message as above. Only just installed the VM and just installed the Parallel Tools. Any thoughts?

  6. Could you please collect the tech report once the issue reproduced and post the report's ID here?
