Coherence Fails after Avria Update

Hi,
I have been using Avira Premium Internet Security Suite for a number of years now without any issues in numerous builds of Parallels Desktop for Mac. However, when I updated the software to version 2012 from a completely fine 2011, all was OK until I came to run Parallels 7.0 14924 in Coherence. At this point I get a message box saying this is not possible and it goes back to Windows mode.

I have tried rebooting, the mac and windows etc but nothing. The only way I can get back to using Coherence is to uninstall Avira 2012. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Same Issue

Hello Ian,

got the same problem. I didn't know, that it was the update to Avira 2012. But it could well be. I installed Parallels newest Version and updated everything in Windows.
Than I tried running coherence and the same message showed up. There where no Problems with that using P6 and SL.

Please resolve this issue.

same here

Parallels 6, Build 6.0.12094, upgrade Avira to 2012 premium and, trying coherence, this happen:

"An error occurred while switching to Coherence. Please try again.

If the problem persists, please contact the Parallels support team for assistance."

This is odd, please fix.
 
Have you tried selecting "Reinstall Parallels Tools" from the Parallels menu? If the program replaced a driver that Parallels needs some of the function may be missing (like Coherence). If that fails uninstall Parallels Tools (using with Windows uninstaller), reboot Windows then try installing it again. That usually fixes the problem for me whenever an update or new program install messes things up. Welcome to the land of Windows with leapfrog .dll files!
 
tried, but nothing

tried, twice each, including turning off general > security > protect windows hosts files from changing in Avira setup, because when i uninstall coherence in windows uninstall with this option ON, it tells me a warn. So i turned it OFF, and the error persists.

SO, I uninstalled Tools from MAC and from WINDOWS, and the problems persists EVEN that option mentioned is ON or OFF.

I disabled everything in Options - General, reinstalled the Parallel Tools und rebooted.
Now, everything is working fine with coherence.

I didn't try rebooting after enabling these options again, though.

(Win7, P7, AV2012, OSX Lion)

But this can't be the best solution. I'm still waiting for an update to fix this. Also waiting for a bugfix for bootcamp crashing on every startup.

I'm running Windows XP SP3 in Parallels 6.0.11828 on Mac OS X 10.6.7 using Avira AntiVirus Personal/Free and had the same problem after updating to 2012. I resolved it by creating exceptions in Avira for all the Parallels Tools processes:

Start Avira. Go to Configuration. Enable Expert Mode.
Realtime Protection --> Scan --> Exceptions.
In the "Processes to be omitted by the Realtime Protection" section, add these processes:
coherence.exe
prl_cc.exe
prl_tools.exe
prl_tools_service.exe
SharedIntApp.exe

I haven't had any problems since.

I have uninstalled Avira 2012 und now my coherence works very properly.
I will try using kaspersky or others.

I am Running Mac OS X Lion with Parallels 7 and Windows 7
still no Coherence working after setting the Exceptions.
What am I getting wrong?

Found a Solution

Using Windows 7 32 bit PRO + Avira Antivirus 2012 ( be it premium or free or Internet security suite)
Parallels desktop 7
Mac OS X Lion
Suggested steps didn't help , but found one definite solution:

in Avira
go to Configuration
enable expert mode
choose general section
choose Security subsection
in the right side uncheck the "Advanced process protection"

done!
