Color depth stuck at 256

I've checked the setting on the clients, the RDP settings on the servers, any intervening group policies, the settings on the 2X Console....but all of my published apps (from 2003 servers) are being served up in not-so-spiffy 8-bit color.

Any help in troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Server and clients are 6.0
 
Checked settings on 2X client, set to 24 bit and use client colors
RDP connector is set to not limit client color depth
RSOP shows no restrictions of color depth via GPO
2X server settings are nominal.

Remote desktops, whether served by 2X or opened directly via MSTSC are OK, but applications published with 2X are 8-bit color only.

Behaviour has been observed on the following client OS machines (servers are Win2003 R2 SP2 32-bit)

Vista Enterprise 32-bit
XP 64-bit
XP 32-bit
