Control Windows applications running in the background?

Hello there,

is there a way to control Windows Applications which are running in the VM while they are not activ in the foreground?

E.g.: Can I control the Windows Media Player with Hotkeys while I surf with Safari in OSX in the foreground?

Is there something like global hotkeyes that work from the hostsystem to the guestsystem?
Any tools that could help?
